i don't like him, i don't think he is going to be good for the people of tower hamlets, i think he is going to cause my trouble in the area as the people who elected him realise he is a fraud, but whatever i think galloway was elected by the people to be their mp.
jeremy paxman laid into him (in the way only jezza can) with the question did he feel proud to have unseated one of the few black women in parliament.
galloway was less than happy with this line of questioning, i suspect not because of the content of the attack and question but more to do with the fact his ego was bruised by not being congratulated by paxman.
but have to i have seen a number of commentators point out that oona king was female, was black and was half jewish as if these personal attributes made her the ideal candidate. (and the corollary of what is being said is that galloway was male, white and atheist and therefore does not fit the pc criteria for holding office).
king was caught out because she was a supporter of the war and of blair, neither of these things were bad per se - but if you are not going to vigorously defend your position and not work hard to get your message out you are going to lose. bottom line was that i saw and heard galloway and respect doing the rounds. i saw nothing of oona king, and now we are stuck with galloway.

What's wrong with Georgie boy?
You are right Pat.
He won because he got people out to vote who might not ordinarily have voted - young people with a Bangladeshi background who mightn't necessarily have voted before.
All the Labour party needed to do was get another 800 of their punters out to vote, and they didn't manage to do that.
Now we have an arriviste career politician who picked our electorate because he knew he had a fair chance of being able to manipulate it to his ends.
The Labour Party did get the 'big-hitters' out on the stump in support of King though. We had a number of high ranking Labourites knocking on doors and attending functions in support of King (Prezza, Peter Hain, Gordon Brown, Robin Cook etc.)
Religion and Race should not have been issues that determined the outcome of the election of our MP, yet they seem to have been.
Oona King was a very effective and dedicated constituency MP. I hope GG remembers his duty is to all of the constituency.
One of the issues he could start with is to address the apparently racially motivated attacks in North Bethnal Green between local residents and gangs of bored Bangladeshi teenagers, who don't want anyone else on 'their patch'. There have been several incidents recently - some very serious - and it seems that the local constabulary are powerless to do anything about it.
If anyone is reading this who might have voted for Oona King, and didn't - remember to use your vote next time ... it's an important right.
seems gorgeous george is off to the states to talk about iraq. again! so it looks like his constituents will have to salute his courage from afar.
(that quote is going to haunt him....)
and shaun thanks for dropping by - come back soon.
jay the question should have been is there anything right with georgie boy?
